About the author
Irma Herrera Pimentel lives in Southern California where she was born and raised.
She is the daughter of Mexican immigrants who built a legacy in the United States from sheer will, faith, and determination.
Through lyrical storytelling and raw honesty, Irma gives voice to a generation of immigrant mothers whose sacrifices built the foundation for future generations and whose courage quietly shapes the American story.
Irma wrote Mi Madre, Maria as a tribute of love to her mother and father.

Why I wrote the book
I wrote Mi Madre Maria because I was afraid her story would be lost in time.
For years, her memories lived in fragments- told in quiet moments, in between laughter and tears, in stories that carried both pain and pride. As time passed, I realized that one day those stories might disappear...and with them who we are.
This book became my way of holding on.
It is my attempt to preserve not only her journey, but her voice- the strength she carried as a young girl in Mexico, the bravery it took to cross into a new world, and the relentless sacrifices, and courage that shaped generations after her.
This story does not only belong to us, but to every daughter who carries her mother's strength, every son who walks in his parents' footsteps, and every family whose roots are planted in love.
I did not write this story because it is extraordinary.
I wrote it because it is real. Because it is hers.
And because stories like Maria's deserve to be remembered.
